Leviticus 18

Unlawful Sexual Relations

18 The Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘I am the Lord your God. You must not do as they do in Egypt, where you used to live, and you must not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you. Do not follow their practices. You must obey my laws and be careful to follow my decrees. I am the Lord your God. Keep my decrees and laws, for the person who obeys them will live by them. I am the Lord.

“‘No one is to approach any close relative to have sexual relations. I am the Lord.

“‘Do not dishonor your father by having sexual relations with your mother. She is your mother; do not have relations with her.

“‘Do not have sexual relations with your father’s wife; that would dishonor your father.

“‘Do not have sexual relations with your sister, either your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, whether she was born in the same home or elsewhere.

10 “‘Do not have sexual relations with your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter; that would dishonor you.

11 “‘Do not have sexual relations with the daughter of your father’s wife, born to your father; she is your sister.

12 “‘Do not have sexual relations with your father’s sister; she is your father’s close relative.

13 “‘Do not have sexual relations with your mother’s sister, because she is your mother’s close relative.

14 “‘Do not dishonor your father’s brother by approaching his wife to have sexual relations; she is your aunt.

15 “‘Do not have sexual relations with your daughter-in-law. She is your son’s wife; do not have relations with her.

16 “‘Do not have sexual relations with your brother’s wife; that would dishonor your brother.

17 “‘Do not have sexual relations with both a woman and her daughter. Do not have sexual relations with either her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter; they are her close relatives. That is wickedness.

18 “‘Do not take your wife’s sister as a rival wife and have sexual relations with her while your wife is living.

19 “‘Do not approach a woman to have sexual relations during the uncleanness of her monthly period.

20 “‘Do not have sexual relations with your neighbor’s wife and defile yourself with her.

21 “‘Do not give any of your children to be sacrificed to Molek, for you must not profane the name of your God. I am the Lord.

22 “‘Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable.

23 “‘Do not have sexual relations with an animal and defile yourself with it. A woman must not present herself to an animal to have sexual relations with it; that is a perversion.

24 “‘Do not defile yourselves in any of these ways, because this is how the nations that I am going to drive out before you became defiled. 25 Even the land was defiled; so I punished it for its sin, and the land vomited out its inhabitants. 26 But you must keep my decrees and my laws. The native-born and the foreigners residing among you must not do any of these detestable things, 27 for all these things were done by the people who lived in the land before you, and the land became defiled. 28 And if you defile the land, it will vomit you out as it vomited out the nations that were before you.

29 “‘Everyone who does any of these detestable things—such persons must be cut off from their people. 30 Keep my requirements and do not follow any of the detestable customs that were practiced before you came and do not defile yourselves with them. I am the Lord your God.’”

Leviticus 18

The word of the Lord is not sugarcoated, just a heads up… I AM going to step on some toes. The words in this chapter are not my words they are Gods Words. READ IT! Read this with an open heart and also realize also our God is a redemptive God. He’s the one who’s always going to win and he’s the one that always cleans things up because that’s who He is … no one can touch God. Most of these verses are a hot topic in today’s world BUT none of these sins are more powerful than the cross. He has redeemed us all.
“And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2‬:‭21‬ ‭NIV‬‬

When the people were called out of Egypt he was taking them away from pagan cultures and setting them down in a clean new land. He set down new rules and guidelines including sexual guidelines. He wanted them to hate the pagan culture and cling to the new clean one. He wanted them to remain loyal to that commitment and loyal to their spouses. That relationship is not about sexual satisfaction it’s about a healthy relationship in a marriage. Sexual relations within a marriage is not a right but a blessing and a gift in that relationship. He stresses that a healthy relationship is more important than the desires of that relationship. We have to take the commitment of marriage seriously. We have to avoid the lies of the world that sex without restrictions will give you happiness. It’s just going to bring trouble. I love this analogy this morning from Nick, “ The enemy doesn’t come in a red suit with horns knocking at our door, the enemy comes with a smile, a cute little outfit and a homemade pie welcoming you to the neighborhood.” So good.

You have to read the chapter and be accountable. It even talks about not sacrificing your child.. some families back then would raise their children to be temple prostitutes but also they would sacrifice their children on the altar. 😭 (I went back and further studied this word and read commentaries. These verses were not specifically talking about pre-birth abortion.. it was talking about Molech worship) worse… an infant was placed on the outstretched hands of an idol and burned as beating drums drowned out the infants cries. 😵‍💫

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭3‬:‭23‬ ‭NIV‬‬

None of us are so far from God that he can’t reach us and bring us into his loving arms. Remember that. Not one of us is better than the other we are ALL messed up.

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭12‬:‭9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Call on His name and in your shame and hurt he will redeem you. He will hold you in his loving arms and help you be strong moving forward.

” I am your Lord” six times he reminds us. He can and He will forgive you, he has the authority!
But … When you look back over history and time all the great kingdoms and countries that God destroyed and fell apart, did so due to sexual immorality…
Something to think about.
