I’m Free From Me so I’m Free From You

See what kind of love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of   God, and so we are.  1John 3:1

Freedom in Christ doesn’t just affect our behavior but it affects the way we see ourselves. To be free we must know and experience the love of God that has been lavished on us through the Holy Spirit. Gods love for you is beyond your ability to fully understand, but not your ability to fully be aware of, to receive and to take pleasure in. When the love of God wrecks you it brings an awareness that helps you receive the fact that you are accepted no matter what, as a child of God. Here’s some truth, even though He loves you just the way you are, He doesn’t want to keep you that way. The Father wants to transform you into the image of His Son so people can see Jesus in you.

When you realize that God accepts you, you become free from yourself which frees you from others. Let me explain. As human beings, one of the longings of our heart is to be accepted by others. We want acceptance from family, friends, co-workers, spouses etc…..and what happens is there is an expectation we put on people that can’t be met and we end up disappointed which leaves us dissatisfied, frustrated and even angry.

The love of God is poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, and when we experience this life changing love, we no longer need or want acceptance from others because we know that God has already accepted us, broken as we are.

The truth is, you’re not here for me but I’m here for you. I will stand before Christ and give an account on how I loved you, not on how you loved me. Your desire to be accepted by those closest to you must end today and receive the fact that you are already accepted by your heavenly Father. I want to encourage you to stop putting expectations that can’t be met on others and just start loving them if they accept you or not. It’s what you’re called to do.

Confession: I am accepted by my heavenly Father and He will never disappoint me.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me to stop putting expectations on others and help me receive the truth that I am already accepted.
