Salt Makes Everything Taste Good

You are the salt of the earth  Matthew 5:13

Have you ever eaten anything that tasted bland and needed seasoning? I know I have, and when I do, a little dash of salt makes it taste so much better! Did you know as a disciple of Christ you are called to bring flavor to the Earth? Jesus says you are the salt of the Earth! Sin, disobedience, greed and everything else that displeases God has made the Earth very unappetizing to our heavenly Father, and you are here to change that.

One of your functions as a child of God is to make this earth appetizing again so our God can enjoy its flavor. That’s right! Our presence, because the Holy Spirit lives in us makes the Earth acceptable to God. The Lord continues to deal with the Earth with grace and mercy rather than in wrath and judgment, and it’s because the Holy Spirit in us makes the difference!

As the salt of the Earth, you are also called to bring flavor to relationships! While you are still breathing and living in this physical realm, you will be involved in peoples’ lives. You are part of a community and your life will either bring a good flavor or a bad taste to the relationships you’re involved in. Did you know you have been given the ministry of reconciliation? The definition of reconciliation is to bring together again, restoration of friendly relations.

You bring a pleasing flavor to the Lord when you show and tell people who are far from Jesus, that God is in love with them no matter what mistakes they have made in the past or going to do in the future. 2 Corinthians 5:19 says,

“………that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them……”  As salt of the Earth we must look past the failures and mistakes people have done and show them the love of Christ, even if it’s you they have hurt or offended.

People battle every day with their failures and mistakes! They need to know that there is a God who is in love with them and wants to be part of their daily lives. This is why you exist! Be salt today by looking past the flaws and failures in others and start seeing the treasure in them.

Confession: I am the salt of the Earth and I bring flavor to the Earth and to the relationships I’m involved in.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me see past the failures and flaws in others so I can function in the ministry of reconciliation that you have called me to.
