Power and Love

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2Timothy 1:7)

I believe God is calling you to be courageous today! Sometimes we allow ourselves to be distracted and motivated by fear, that we don’t experience power and love and we end up not representing Christ well.

The word “sound mind” in 2 Timothy 1:7 means self control. Power and love cannot be experienced in our lives if we lack self control. If we indulge freely in the things of the world and in the things of the Kingdom of God, we deceive ourselves. As a disciple of Christ I want to remind you that the spirit of power, love and a sound mind dwell inside of you.

But we have trouble seeing what’s inside of us because our eyes and minds are focused on our circumstance instead of our King and when this happens, fear will try to rule over you! Fear has a way of paralyzing you and keeping you from taking risks for the kingdom of God. A fruit of fear is man pleasing. I believe there are a lot of men pleasers in the American church today because many disciples have opened the door to fear.

If we are going to see a great awakening in this country this must change! So, let me ask you. What kind of person are you? Are you a man pleaser or a God pleaser? Listen to what Jesus says in Matthew 10:28 about the fear of man. “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

The antidote to be free from the fear of man is to fear God. When we make the conscience decision to fear God, self control will be seen in our lives, and power and love will rule over us instead of the spirit of fear.

Well what is the fear of God? It’s very simple, to fear God is to hate what He hates and to love what He loves. We must desire to please our Father no matter what the cost is because it pleases Him. When our desires line up with His desires, we know how to fear God. The fruit of obedience is the fear of God and we must represent Christ well in power, love and a sound mind!

So will you be courageous today and fear God? Trust me; the benefits are out of this world!

Confession: I am not a man pleaser; I live a surrendered life to the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, please change my desires so I can love what the Father loves and hate what he hates. Help me to fear God so Jesus can be seen in my life.
