Day 3 – It’s Safer Walking on the Water
Peter answered Him, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come with You on the water.” – (Matthew 14:28)
Wow Day 3! I’m proud of you guys! Day 3 is one of the hardest days of the fast because hunger pains begin to set in and can distract us from focusing on pleasing the Father. Don’t give up, it gets easier!
When I read Matthew 14:28 I think about opportunities that arise in my life and I ask exactly what Peter asked, “Lord, if this is You, command me to come, help me know this is You!”Doors of opportunities will arise in your life and you must acknowledge God in them, so you can get clear direction from the Holy Spirit on whether you should go or stay put. A lot of us put ourselves in tough situations because we don’t acknowledge God when it’s time to make a decision. Proverb 3:6 is very clear on this, “In ALL your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
Our part is to acknowledge Him in everything, job opportunities, furthering education, who to marry, what local church should I go to, where should I serve, what’s my calling in life? Life is about making tough decisions and when we do our part, the spiritual GPS on the inside of us gets turned on and we get clarity on what to do and where to go.
At the same time we need to be careful that we don’t get caught up on focusing on the “what to dos and the “where to gos” because once we start focusing on the problem instead of the problem solver, we become frustrated. And if there is anything the devil wants you to be, its frustrated with God. We must not fall into this trap!
I believe that some of you have acknowledged God in all your ways and He has clearly spoken to you about stepping out of the boat, but because of fear you have disobeyed His voice. Because of uncertainty you have not taken action. God doesn’t see you as a failure and He doesn’t want to pop you upside your head. What He wants from you is obedience! When you live a life of obedience, God will do the supernatural in your life.
Just as Peter walked on water, God is calling you to walk on water. God wants to do the impossible through you so that He gets all the glory. He calls you out onto the water because He is on the water. It is safer walking on water because Jesus is there! Its in our nature to focus on the problem instead of the answer and God wants to change your perspective today.
When Peter stepped out of the boat to go to Jesus the supernatural happened, he walked on water. But soon enough, he took his eyes off of Jesus and put his focus on the problem and began sinking. My favorite part of this story is found in Matthew 14:31, it says, “Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him…..” Wow! I love this!
Is it scary to step out? Yes! Is there a possibility you might fail? Yup! But all that matters is that Jesus is there and ready to catch you. I want to encourage you today to step out of the boat because it’s safer to walk on water with Jesus!
Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me acknowledge the Father in all my ways. Please remind me that Jesus will catch me when I take risks that bring Him glory.
Confession: I will step out the boat so God can do the supernatural through me.
